Tag Navigation

All Posts on this blog that are tagged, (some aren't but that number is VERY few,) have one or more of the tags on this list.

Meaning: If you want to treat this list as a list of topics in this blog, and use it as a search engine, feel free to hit CTRL + F on your browser, type in a key word, and when you find that tag if there's a match, hover, or tap and when it turns blue click or tap and you'll be good to go.

If you're using a mobile device with a touch screen, it'll only turn blue when you tap the word, however.

The software that runs this blog currently lacks a search feature, so this is the best I can offer, at the moment, not being a programmer.

This list is current as of Friday, January 27th, 2023. I'll update it once a month, or once every two weeks.

[1]. “Mega Emergency” Unfolds For World's Top Coffee Growers As Fertilizer Costs Spike

https://www.dailymessenger.is/pdf/%2522Mega%20Emergency%2522%20Unfolds%20For%20World%27s%20Top%20Coffee%20Growers%20As%20Fertilizer%20Costs%20Spike.pdf

This one sucks.

I know you probably like your coffee as much as I do. Heck! I even roast my own. That said, I can offer you some special insight into this matter. It most likely won't affect craft farms, who grow high quality coffee, and produce their own fertilizer, but it will affect the price of, say – Starbucks, Peets, Foldgers, and all those types of bean offerings, at the store.

I get my coffee in 20-22pound boxes, from https://www.royalcoffee.com, and occasionally will buy a pound or two from https://www.burmancoffeetraders.com, although the coffee from Royal is FAR superior to what burman presents, on the whole. Occasionally, burman will source things from royal themselves, but I figure why deal with the middle man, and older beans- when you can just buy from Royal directly.

Check the article for details, about the fertilizer thing.

Also worth mentioning, I bought a coffee roaster called the Behmor 1600AB+. It's not the greatest, but it gets the job done, and is basically a glorified toaster oven, with extra bells and timing whistles. I disabled the nanny switch, so I can re-start it when it turns off, (there's a wire on the circuit board you disconnect), but these days I just set the timer to full blast for 10 minutes, then open the door, and finish the coffee off for the final three minutes to get it cracking with a propane heat gun.

***and I hate amazon as much as you do, but it's available there, and likely direct from master appliance, as well. The

good news, is the heat gun is made in the USA.

They also offer a 150$ 14 amp electric dealio, which is WAY overkill for roasting coffee, but would do a FINE job of it. At that point, you'd just need something super heat proof, that rotates, and you point the heat gun at the coffee, and in about ten minutes, you have coffee. Simplifying it a bit, but roasting is NOT as hard as the coffee snobs will have you believe. It surely is a nuanced art form, but it can be done “quick and easy, as well.” The main risk, in all of it, is fire. Coffee roasting requires temps of around 391 degrees, to crack the beans. It's easy to go overkill at first, and get them around 500, at which point they start on fire. You'll have ample warning of this, unless you're careless, however.
